BT-5 Fast Tankovy Company (SBX19)

BT-5 Fast Tankovy Company (SBX19) includes five BT-5 Fast Tanks. The BT-5 fast tank was the first in the BT series of tanks to introduce a larger turret to accommodate the exceptional 45mm obr 1938 gun. This gun out-matched almost all of the Soviets enemy’s tanks guns, and when combined with the excellent manoeuvrability of the BT fast tank design it made for an effective weapon. These called for tank and cavalry forces to advance rapidly to take objectives up to a hundred kilometres (sixty miles) or more behind the front, surrounding the enemy and destroying them. For this role the Red Army looked at a tank designed by an American, Walter Christie, and like the T-26, built unlicensed copies in huge numbers as the BT series of fast tanks.

The thing that made the Christie design attractive for this role was its speed, both cross country and on roads. Its mobility came from a novel suspension system of large rubber-shod road wheels mounted on long coil springs. This allowed the wheels to absorb he shock of high-speed cross country travel, and when the tracks were removed, allowed the tank to drive at high speeds on roads. While an interesting idea, the impracticality of taking the tracks on and off the tanks in a combat situation meant that they never tried it in action. One of the other implications of being a light, fast lank was the requirement to keep weight down and thus the armour light, lighter even than the T-26. Fast Tank Tanks based on Christie’s design are built around exceptionally powerful engines and flexible suspensions and can really move when the throttle’s opened up. Fast tanks can move up to 32”/80cm At the Double. However, they still only go 12”/30cm during normal movement.

Unreliable Whether poorly designed, unsuitable for the conditions, or requiring more maintenance than current supply considerations will allow, these vehicles have a significant chance of breakdown when pushed too hard. If an Unreliable vehicle attempts to move At the Double, roll a die. On a roll of 1 the vehicle becomes Bogged Down.

Observing the effectiveness of prolonged artillery bombardments, it was concluded that the Imperial Japanese Army required a weapon of similar capabilities in order to keep pace with the military forces in the west. The new design was ready in 1934 and after some fine tuning went into production in 1937. The Type 96 howitzer was capable of 65° of elevation; had a range of nearly 12km and could be transported by a team of six horses. The Type 96 first saw action in the second Sino-Japanese war where it earned high praise for its battlefield effectiveness.  It continued its stellar service throughout World War Two where it was considered the most modern and effective weapon in the Japanese arsenal. Type 38 75mm Gun (JP570)

Type 38 75mm Infantry Gun (JP570) includes two Type 38 75mm guns with crew, one Command Sword team, one optional Observer Rifle team, one Small three-hole base, one Small two-hole base & two Large bases. Built under licence from the famed German gun manufacturer Krupp; the Type 38 was a relatively simple design which meant that a greater number of guns could be built in a shorter time span. Initially the Type 38 was fitted with a conventional interrupted screw breech block mechanism that was later used on the Type 41 design. However, this was later changed to a horizontal sliding design in order to speed up the reloading process. Along with the typical high explosive (HE) round, the Type 38 could also fire an armour-piercing, shrapnel as well as other tactical ammunition such as an illumination round. While considered obsolete by the standard of the times; the Type 38 saw service against the Soviets and during the war in the Pacific against the Americans. Observer teams need a good view of the battlefield in order to do their job correctly. Be sure to deploy them in a position where they have an excellent view of the battlefield such as on a hilltop or on the top floor of a multi-level building.

The Gun Crews

Although a Field Artillery Battery is a single Support choice, each Gun Section operates as a separate platoon with its own Command team. Field Artillery Battery Gun Sections may not be deployed in Ambush.

Type 41 75mm Infantry Gun (JP565)

Type 41 75mm Infantry Gun (JP565) includes two Type 41 75mm Infantry guns with crew, one Command Sword team, one optional Observer Rifle team, one Small three-hole base, one Small two-hole base & two Medium bases. The Type 41 75mm gun was essentially the same weapons its predecessor; the Type 38.  However, the Type 41 was slightly lighter (by 30kg) to make it easier to transport.  Check out the Type 41 75mm Infantry Gun in the online store here...

The Type 41 did however feature an interrupted thread breechblock which provided an immediate way of differentiating between the two weapons upon inspection. Due to its lighter weight, the Type 41 could be man-handled on the battlefield by its crew or broken down into several parts and transported by horses. The Gun Crews

The Type 41 75mm regimental gun is easy to man-handle, making it an ideal infantry support weapon. It was originally designed as a mountain gun, so could be broken down into several loads. It has found new life supporting the infantry regiments with short intense barrages of high-explosive rounds bring death and destruction to the enemy.
