Rising Sun
Type 96 150mm Howitzer (JP580)Observing the effectiveness of prolonged artillery bombardments, it was concluded that the Imperial Japanese Army required a weapon of similar capabilities in order to keep pace with the military forces in the west.

The new design was ready in 1934 and after some fine tuning went into production in 1937. The Type 96 howitzer was capable of 65° of elevation; had a range of nearly 12km and could be transported by a team of six horses. The Type 96 first saw action in the second Sino-Japanese war where it earned high praise for its battlefield effectiveness.  It continued its stellar service throughout World War Two where it was considered the most modern and effective weapon in the Japanese arsenal.

Gun Shields
Manning a gun in the thick of battle is a hazardous job. To offset the increased vulnerability of gun crews to enemy fire, many guns have a bulletproof gun shield.

Gun Shields provide your Gun teams with Bulletproof Cover from shots fired from in front of a line drawn across the front of the team’s base. Shots fired from behind this line hit the unprotected crew behind the shield.

Gun Shields do not provide cover to teams moving At the Double, nor from artillery bombardments.

Rising Sun
Type 38 75mm Infantry Gun (JP570)Built under licence from the famed German gun manufacturer Krupp; the Type 38 was a relatively simple design which meant that a greater number of guns could be built in a shorter time span.

Initially the Type 38 was fitted with a conventional interrupted screw breech block mechanism that was later used on the Type 41 design. However, this was later changed to a horizontal sliding design in order to speed up the reloading process. Along with the typical high explosive (HE) round, the Type 38 could also fire an armour-piercing, shrapnel as well as other tactical ammunition such as an illumination round. While considered obsolete by the standard of the times; the Type 38 saw service against the Soviets and during the war in the Pacific against the Americans.

Type 41 75mm Infantry Gun (JP565)The Type 41 did however feature an interrupted thread breechblock which provided an immediate way of differentiating between the two weapons upon inspection.

Due to its lighter weight, the Type 41 could be man-handled on the battlefield by its crew or broken down into several parts and transported by horses. Capable of firing a high explosive (HE) round up to rangers close to 8000 yards; the Type 41 was not a common on the battlefield as its counterpart the Type 38.

The Type 41 75mm regimental gun is easy to man-handle, making it an ideal infantry support weapon. It was originally designed as a mountain gun, so could be broken down into several loads. It has found new life supporting the infantry regiments with short intense barrages of high-explosive rounds bring death and destruction to the enemy.

Armoured Panzergrenadier Platoon

Panzergrenadier Platoon (GBX09)
Late War Panzergrenadiers and Sd Kfz 251 D half-tracks with plastic parts

The Panzergrenadier regiments are the assault infantry of the German armoured divisions and the armoured  (Gepanzert) Panzergrenadiers are the hard spearhead of any infantry assault. They are noted for their speed, mobility, and great firepower. Because they’re part of a Panzer Division they cooperate closely with the tanks of the Panzer regiment.
Armoured Panzergrenadier Platoon
Armed with two MG-42 machine-guns for each squad the Panzergrenadier Platoon can unleash a substantial volume of firepower. Mounted in their armoured Sd Kfz 251 D half-track personnel carriers they travel into battle. They can fight on foot or assault from their vehicles.
They do not fight according to linear and frontal principles, like the Grenadiers, but try and force their way through the lines into the rear of the enemy positions.
Sd Kfz 251/10 D
Armoured Panzergrenadier Platoon
Sd Kfz 251/1 D
The Panzergrenadiers are at their best when they put their mobility and firepower to use in combined operations with the Panzers. Panzergrenadiers will often precede the Panzers in an assault; attempting to create situations the highly mobile tanks can take advantage of.

Whenever tough hand-to-hand fighting is required the Panzergrenadiers are called forward and their gritty determination and excellent combat skills put them in good stead to clear enemy positions.
If successful they often clamber back aboard their carriers and pursue the enemy. On defence they can often be equally effective, having an extensive allotment of heavy support weapons available from their company, battalion and division.     MG team

MG teamOften during successful offensive operations they are required to hold off enemy counter-attacks until reinforcements arrive to replace them in the newly won positions. They may have to hang on for some time while slower motorised and foot troops catch up to their positions.
