Panzer Lehr Panzergrenadierkompanie (GEAB04)

Panzer Lehr Panzergrenadierkompanie (GEAB04)
Core components of a Panzergrenadierkompanie
The Panzer Lehr Division was formed from the elite Lehr (Demonstration) units of the German Army. Issued the latest and best equipment, with every unit mounted in armoured vehicles, it showed off the ideal organisation for a Panzer Division.

When the Allies landed in France on D-Day, Panzer Lehr was one of the first units to respond, counterattacking towards the ancient Norman city of Bayeux. Faced with strong British attacks, the division was forced onto the defensive. It held the front line for three more weeks against continual heavy attacks, before being rushed to the American sector opposite Carentan.

There it formed the core of the defensive line holding back the American tide until it was overwhelmed in Operation Cobra. Despite heavy losses, Panzer Lehr fought on to the end of the campaign, before escaping to fight again on the borders of Germany.
